Job Summary
Provide direct assistance to the classroom teacher in all areas of the daily classroom routine; demonstrate ability to supervise a classroom group in the teacher's absence; work with children including those with special needs; conduct small groups and support individual goals; supervise classroom aides in toileting, playground, lunch, and arrival/departure; respond quickly to emergencies; duties may include additional assignments related to training and scheduling; must hold at least a New York State Level One Teaching Assistant Certificate or Teacher Assistant Initial and pursue Level Three Certification with required professional development; prior experience with developmentally disabled children is preferred; strong communication, independent work, empathy, adaptability, and teamwork are essential; computer skills (Word, Internet) are required.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- New York State Level One Teaching Assistant Certificate or Teacher Assistant Initial
- Evidence of pursuing Level Three Teaching Assistant Certification
- Willingness to obtain ongoing Professional Development every five years
- Experience with developmentally disabled children preferred but not required
- Computer skills including working knowledge of Word and Internet
