Job Summary
Teacher Assistant in the Special Education program focusing on Therapeutic Emotional Support. Supports instruction, helps implement lesson plans, fosters a positive learning environment, and maintains continuity in the educational program. Works closely with the teaching team to contribute to a dynamic and supportive learning atmosphere. Salary set at $18.91/hour with full-time benefits; terms include 7 hours per day, 188 days per year, and LIU-provided health, life, and retirement benefits. Requires High School diploma or equivalent and current First Aid/CPR certification; certificates in crisis management/intervention and additional PA Dept. of Education competencies expected within one year; annual professional development of 20 hours; strong communication, patience, and collaboration skills.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must have or obtain and maintain a current certificate in First Aid and CPR
- Must have or obtain and maintain current certificate in LIU-approved crisis management and intervention program (preferred)
- Must obtain additional competency as mandated by PA Dept. of Education (within one year from date of hire)
- Must complete twenty (20) hours of professional development related to assignment each year
- Relevant experience working with students in an educational setting (preferred)
- Patience, flexibility, and positive attitude
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively with teachers and staff
