Job Summary
Assist teachers with instructional duties and provide a safe learning environment for students with social emotional and developmental needs. Support small group and individual activities, including personal care tasks like dressing and feeding. Implement behavior intervention plans, utilize prompts and redirection strategies, and collect data on student progress. Supervise students during emergency drills, assemblies, and field trips while adhering to district policies and IDEA requirements. Maintain collegial relationships with classroom teachers and support professionals to foster positive student interactions.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma
- Completion of a Teacher Assistant Pre-Employment Training Program approved by the RI Department of Education (RIDE) OR proof of registration in such course
- Exceptions to this particular qualification are those with a TA certification from another state
- Exceptions to this particular qualification are those with Associates Degree or Bachelor's Degree AND who have completed coursework or other training consistent with the teacher assistant program standards
- Successfully pass the ParaPro Assessment
- Complete at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education
- Obtain an Associate's Degree or higher
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, in both indoor and outdoor environments, and regularly move and traverse in order to maintain a safe learning environment
- Stamina to work irregular hours to include a full day
- Able to retrieve items overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
- Move and transport moderately heavy objects
