Job Summary
Provide one-on-one and small group instruction under teacher direction, reinforce lessons, and monitor student work. Assist with grading, distribute materials, and prepare instructional aids. Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and during field trips while supporting self-help skills and behavioral needs. Operate a school bus safely to transport students, maintaining discipline and performing vehicle inspections. Record attendance, grades, and health data; organize classroom materials and file records. Maintain confidentiality of student information and report progress to staff. This dual-employment role supports high-quality instruction and student success at G.E. Massey Elementary School.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Must pass drug test, background check, and TB test prior to employment
- Hold an Associate's degree or higher in any area
- Complete 30 semester hours of college coursework in any area
- Earn passing scores on the WorkKeys Test (offered at CVCC): Workplace Documents: Level 4+
- Earn passing scores on the WorkKeys Test (offered at CVCC): Applied Math: Level 4+
- Earn passing scores on the WorkKeys Test (offered at CVCC): Business Writing: Level 3+
- Valid driver's license and driving record qualifying for a North Carolina Commercial Driver's License/NCCDL
- Ability to obtain and maintain bus driver certification and comply with all transportation safety regulations
- Knowledge of effective methods for working with students and supporting instruction
- Ability to lift and move up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs constantly
