Job Summary
Assist the teacher in general daily classroom activities, including small group instruction, tutoring, and maintaining discipline. Prepare specialized instructional materials, set up the classroom, and manage attendance reports and clerical functions. Operate standard school equipment such as laminators and audiovisual devices while encouraging proper student behavior. Supervise students during after-school and academic assistance lab sessions. Handle bulletin board assembly and display maintenance.
Required Qualifications
- Workkeys with a passing score of Level 2
- Para Pathways with a minimum score of 456
- 60 credit hours
- Bachelor's Degree
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- At least two years of study at an accredited institution of higher education
- Associate's degree (or higher)
- An approved State or local academic assessment that measures the paraprofessional's knowledge of and ability to assist in instruction of the following subjects at the appropriate level, i.e. ParaPro
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
- Previous work in child care
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
- Ability to sit and talk or hear
- Ability to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to push items of 50 pounds
