Job Summary
Collect and record student data on skill practice, seizures, and toileting while supervising learning centers and assisting students with materials. Implement behavior modification plans, provide discipline in the teacher's absence, and support language development through speech sound practice, reading, and vocabulary activities. Operate audiovisual equipment like projectors and smartboards, manage classroom discussions and games, and assist with personal hygiene and physical care as required. Perform duties under teacher supervision with a focus on students with physical or intellectual disabilities. This end-of-year role involves 187 days, 7 hours daily, and requires physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience as a teacher aide
- Experience working with children
- Ability to work under the supervision of the teacher
- Ability to work effectively with individual children and small groups
- Physical ability to lift, position, and assist students
- Ability to accept and adapt to the wide differences in student characteristics and abilities
- Ability to operate standard office equipment
- Ability to learn to operate video equipment
- Ability to learn to perform individual medical procedures when necessary
- Good human relations and communications skills
- Patience
- Flexibility
- Ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly
- Normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies
