Job Summary
Support the supervision and instruction of students with disabilities by assisting with personal care needs, monitoring students during activities, and implementing Individualized Education Programs. Provide academic support through small group instruction and classroom preparation while guiding students in developing positive relationships. Assist substitute teachers in the absence of regular educators and help students board and depart from school buses. Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and support documentation of student progress. This role may include tasks requiring physical exertion, such as lifting students or providing medical care like catheterization and tube feeding with proper training. All candidates must be able to pass an extensive background investigation before being hired.
Required Qualifications
- 2-year associate degree
- 60 semester hours of college course work
- taken and passed the ParaPro Assessment
- 4-year degree
- Good character
- Ability to work with others
- Ability to accept individual differences among children
- Good physical and mental health
- CPR certification
- Ability to pass the Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) requirements
- Ability to handle unforeseen situation in accordance with policy
- Physically able to lift and move students when necessary
- Ability to assist students boarding and departing from school buses
- Ability to serve as a bus assistant for transportation to and from school and on activities
- Ability to obtain Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to drive a school bus, if necessary
- Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or compositional characteristics of data, people or things
- Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information
- Ability to read a variety of policy and procedures manuals
- Ability to prepare routine reports and records, performance appraisals, memos, etc.
- Ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control and confidence
- Ability to apply rational systems to solve practical problems
- Ability to comprehend and interpret received information
- Ability to record and deliver information
- Ability to explain procedures
- Ability to follow and give verbal and written instructions
- Ability to counsel and teach students

- Ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities
- Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions
- Ability to be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines
