Job Summary
Provides instructional support, prepares classroom materials, supervises student behavior, and assists with implementing behavior modification plans under the supervision of the teacher. Works with speech-language activities directed by the speech therapist, reads to students, and conducts language-development activities. Supports centers, aids in data collection on student progress, operates classroom AV equipment, and assists with personal hygiene and physical care as required. Works 10 months (187 days) per year, 7 hours per day, in Lovettsville, VA.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience as a teacher aide or experience working with children
- Ability to work under the supervision of the teacher, including following lesson plans
- Ability to work effectively with individual children and small groups, meeting instructional objectives
- Physical ability to lift, position, and assist students as required
- Ability to operate standard office equipment, learn to operate video equipment, and learn to perform individual medical procedures when necessary
- Good human relations and communications skills; patience and flexibility
- Physical requirements: able to converse, sit, stand, and lift up to 25 pounds as needed
