Job Summary
The Teacher Assistant for Special Education provides one-on-one support to a special education student within a general education classroom. Responsibilities include assisting with instructional activities, collecting data on student performance, observing and monitoring student behavior, and helping maintain a safe learning environment. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, completion of autism paraprofessional training, and effective communication skills. The position involves working closely with teachers and maintaining detailed student records.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Completion of required autism paraprofessional training as outlined by the Virginia Department of Education.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Basic computing and spelling skills required.
- Concern for the general welfare of children and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students, and administrators.
- Patience, flexibility, dependability, interest, punctuality, and ability to follow directions.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in nursing, childcare, or special education preferred.
- Completion of a minimum of 48 hours of college credit for Special Education Aide II.
