Job Summary

Assist teachers with executing instruction, evaluating effectiveness, and providing one-on-one academic and behavioral support. Monitor student safety, maintain classroom discipline, and reinforce study skills while conducting short instructional sessions. Manage standardized records, grade papers, check attendance, and perform general housekeeping and clerical duties. Operate audiovisual equipment, develop instructional materials, and drive a school bus when needed to operate the transportation system. Support students with tasks they cannot perform independently and participate in staff development workshops. Work seven hours daily for 10 months under the supervision of a principal or lead teacher.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate Degree related to Education
  • 48 semester hours of transferable college coursework
  • Official transcript to validate education
  • Bronze-level WorkKeys Career Readiness Certification (NCRC) or above
  • Score of 3 or higher on the WorkKeys Business Writing assessment
  • Current and valid driver's license
  • License to drive a school bus
  • Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students
  • Ability to motivate students and to maintain order and discipline in a classroom
  • Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment
  • Ability to perform general clerical duties
  • Ability to operate common office machines
  • Ability to maintain basic files and records
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • General knowledge of activities performed by lead teacher
  • General knowledge of daily routines of the classroom
  • General knowledge of student handbook rules
  • General knowledge of procedures to follow in the event of an emergency
  • General knowledge of principles of organization and administration
  • Some knowledge of the curriculum for the grade
  • Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information
  • Ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists
  • Ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials
  • Ability to record and deliver information
  • Ability to explain procedures
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English
  • Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions
  • Ability to be adaptable to performing under stress
  • Ability to talk and hear
  • Ability to communicate via telephone
  • Ability to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, equipment for children with special needs
