Job Summary
Assist teachers with executing instruction, evaluating effectiveness, and providing one-on-one academic and behavioral support. Monitor student safety, attitudes, and discipline while maintaining a clean, orderly classroom environment. Conduct short study skills sessions, serve as a test proctor, and develop instructional materials. Perform general housekeeping, minor equipment repairs, and clerical duties including grading papers and filing incident reports. Feed and assist students with self-care tasks as needed. Work Monday through Friday for 20 hours weekly across 9–10 months. Requires a valid driver's license and ability to obtain a commercial bus license. Associate degree, 48 semester hours, or WorkKeys assessment required.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree
- 48 semester hours
- Pass the WorkKeys assessment
- Willing and eligible to obtain a bus driver's license
- Valid driver's license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles
- Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students
- Ability to motivate students
- Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment
- Ability to perform general clerical duties
- Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom
- Ability to operate common office machines
- Ability to serve as a testing proctor
- Ability to maintain basic files and records
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to speak English clearly in order to be understood by students
- Ability to exhibit empathy and patience especially with younger children and children with special needs
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
- High School Diploma
- North Carolina Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with school bus certification and P&S endorsements
Desired Qualifications
- Two (2) to five (5) years serving as a classroom teacher assistant
- Training in assisting students with special needs
