Job Summary
Assist teachers with executing instruction, monitoring student safety, and maintaining classroom discipline. Provide one-on-one academic support, reinforce learning, and conduct short study skills sessions. Manage student behavior, record incidents, and serve as a test proctor. Handle general housekeeping, clerical duties, and minor equipment repairs while developing instructional materials. Feed and assist students with self-care tasks as needed. Maintain standardized records, file incident reports, and check daily attendance. Operate audiovisual equipment and participate in staff development meetings. Requires a valid driver's license and ability to obtain a bus license.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree
- 48 semester hours
- Pass the WorkKeys assessment
- High School Diploma
- Valid driver's license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles
- Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students
- Ability to motivate students
- Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment
- Ability to perform general clerical duties
- Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom
- Ability to operate common office machines
- Ability to serve as a testing proctor
- Ability to maintain basic files and records
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to speak English clearly in order to be understood by students
- Ability to exhibit empathy and patience especially with younger children and children with special needs
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
- Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles
- Must be willing and eligible to obtain a bus driver's license and sub as needed on the bus
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds of force
- Must be able to assist students including lifting, holding, restraining, guiding, leading by hand, etc.
Desired Qualifications
- Two (2) to five (5) years serving as a classroom teacher assistant
- Training in assisting students with special needs
- Able to obtain a North Carolina Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with school bus certification and P&S endorsements
