Job Summary
Two permanent Full Time Teacher Assistant positions at New Germany Rural High School. Provide personal care functions and program support to students under teacher supervision, including assisting with mobility, routines (toileting, dressing, feeding, personal hygiene), and ensuring a safe environment. Administer medications and follow guidelines; support behaviour management and student self-regulation; document data and observations; collaborate with teachers and school staff to implement interventions; maintain confidentiality and adhere to privacy protocols. Requires completion of a minimum 2-year certified course with a significant Special Education component and a practicum of at least 100 hours, First Aid/CPR certification, and relevant health-care support training. One of the two positions may include bus monitor duties. Requires ability to interact positively with students, manage multiple responsibilities, and demonstrate ethical conduct within the school community. Must pass Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Checks and Nova Scotia Child Abuse Register Checks. The role is in-person at the school.
Required Qualifications
- High school completion certificate
- Minimum 2 year course of study certified from the NS Department of Education with significant Special Education component
- Supervised practicum of no less than 100 hours
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Specific health care support training or certification as required (e.g. Non Violent Crisis Intervention)
- Ability to perform physical requirements of the position
- Basic computer skills and training in assistive technology
