Job Summary
Three full-time Teacher Assistant positions at New Germany Elementary School within the South Shore Regional Centre for Education. Responsibilities include providing personal care for students with physical and mobility needs, assisting with routines (toileting, dressing, feeding), transporting and transferring students as needed, administering medications per guidelines, and carrying out specified medical procedures when trained. Supports program implementation and behavior management under teacher direction; records data and observations; maintains privacy and confidentiality; collaborates with the school community and demonstrates ethical behavior, patience, and respect for diversity. Requires completion of a related education program with a Special Education focus, practicum, First Aid/CPR, and required certifications; involves potential bus monitor duties for one position, with willingness to accept additional duties indicated in the application. Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check and Nova Scotia Child Abuse Register Check required.
Required Qualifications
- High school completion certificate
- Minimum 2-year post-secondary program in a related field with significant Special Education component
- Supervised practicum of at least 100 hours
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Health care support training or certification as required (e.g., Non Violent Crisis Intervention)
- Ability to perform physical requirements
- Basic computer skills and training in assistive technology
- Ability to interact effectively with children and youth
- Demonstrated teamwork and confidentiality
- Background checks as required (Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector)
