Job Summary
Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing positive working relationships, rules, and procedures while supervising, escorting, and transporting students throughout the day and after school. Provide coverage for teacher absence in the classroom and "specials" areas, assist in the development of appropriate curriculum, and prepare IEPs, report cards, transcripts, and daily logs. Plan extra-curricular activities including seasonal events, plays, and field trips, and use relevant technology to support instruction. Evaluate and record academic programs, communicate regularly with classroom teachers and parents regarding student progress, and maintain awareness of current treatment plans to report observations to the treatment team. Fulfill legal requirements as a Mandated Reporter under NYS law and demonstrate cultural sensitivity towards students and staff.
Required Qualifications
- Teaching Assistant certification is required at the end of the first year of employment
- Valid NYS driver's license
- Must be able to restrain clients utilizing Therapeutic Crisis Intervention techniques
- Must be able to perform a variety of tasks, climb stairs, move throughout the building, work cooperatively in a team environment and quickly respond to emergencies
- Must be able to drop repeatedly to knees, twist and turn, exert oneself physically at an intense level, and support another adult's weight
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Education or Liberal Arts preferred from an accredited institution
- Relevant experience working with youth
