Job Summary
Assist the teacher with instructional duties, including individual and group activities on ABC sequencing, visual discrimination, and letter-number matching. Monitor art projects, supervise learning centers, and manage student behavior using specific modification plans. Prepare classroom materials, settle students, record attendance, and assist with personal hygiene and physical care needs. Implement discipline in the teacher's absence, operate audio-visual equipment, and perform clerical tasks like filing and arranging field trips. Work under the guidance of the teacher to meet established instructional objectives while recognizing immediate needs without specific instructions.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school
- Experience as a teacher aide
- Experience working with children
- Ability to work under the supervision of the teacher
- Ability to follow lesson plans prepared by teachers
- Ability to record data
- Ability to verbally describe student progress and difficulties
- Ability to work effectively with individual children and small groups
- Ability to take initiative in recognizing an immediate need and meeting it without specific instructions
- Physical ability to lift, position, and assist students as required
- Ability to learn to perform individual medical procedures when necessary
