Job Summary

Assist a kindergarten teacher with executing instruction, evaluating its effectiveness, and providing one-on-one academic and behavioral support. Monitor student safety, well-being, and attitudes while maintaining classroom discipline, recording time-outs, and assisting with crisis prevention. Conduct short study skills sessions, reinforce instructions, and maintain standardized records, documentation, and daily attendance. Perform general housekeeping, repair school equipment, develop instructional materials, and operate audiovisual tools. Feed and toilet students as needed, grade papers, and file incident reports. Participate in staff development workshops and perform other related tasks as required.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma
  • Minimum of 48 hours of college level coursework
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Ability to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, equipment for children with special needs
  • Ability to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
  • Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people or things
  • Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information
  • Ability to receive instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors
  • Ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists
  • Ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials using prescribed format
  • Ability to apply rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form
