Teacher Assistant (Head Start)

Job Summary
Provides instructional and developmental support to the Lead Teacher in a Head Start preschool classroom. Assists with daily routines, lesson planning, and activities to promote cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. Responsibilities include supervising children, assisting with meal service and transitions, maintaining a safe classroom environment, preparing materials, and documenting observations using anecdotal notes. Familiarity with Teaching Strategies GOLD to accurately enter developmental checkpoint data and with Conscious Discipline to promote positive behavior. Requires independent judgment with minimal supervision; interacts professionally with parents. Reports to the Lead Teacher and Education Manager; must participate in required professional development and maintain at least 15 hours of continuing education annually.
Required Qualifications
- An Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred; however, college-level coursework in early childhood development with related experience working with preschool-aged children will be accepted.
