Job Summary
The Head Start Teacher Assistant supports the Head Start Teacher in creating a safe and engaging learning environment for preschool-aged children by assisting with classroom instruction, daily activities, and behavior management. Responsibilities include planning lesson plans, observing children's development, supervising children, and building relationships with families for classroom engagement. The assistant must work independently and as part of a team while maintaining organization. Candidates should possess a high school diploma or GED and experience with preschool-aged children, alongside passion and cultural competency for supporting children's growth.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous experience working with preschool-aged children
- Valid driver’s license
- Must pass criminal background check and fingerprinting
- Must pass all Maryland licensing requirements
Desired Qualifications
- CDA (Child Development Associate) credential
- Associate’s degree
- Coursework in Early Childhood Education
Additional Requirements
- Must pass all Maryland licensing requirements to include medical evaluation and tuberculosis screening.
