Job Summary
The Head Start Teacher Assistant supports the Head Start Teacher in creating a safe, engaging learning environment for preschool-aged children. Responsibilities include assisting with lesson plans, engaging children in developmentally appropriate activities, and maintaining a clean classroom. The role requires effective communication, cultural competency, and the ability to foster strong family relationships. Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, with preference given to those with early childhood education credentials or experience.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Previous experience working with preschool-aged children
- Pass criminal background check and fingerprinting
- Pass all Maryland licensing requirements to include medical evaluation and tuberculosis screening
Desired Qualifications
- CDA (Child Development Associate) credential
- Associate’s degree or coursework in Early Childhood Education
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive to various MRDC locations throughout the state
