Job Summary
Assist the teacher with instructional duties, preparing classroom materials, supervising student behavior, and providing personal hygiene and physical care as required. Deliver individual and group instruction on activities such as ABC sequencing, visual discrimination, and letter-number matching while monitoring art projects and implementing behavior modification plans. Supervise learning centers, manage recess and lunch periods, and prepare the classroom by organizing materials, assisting students off the bus, recording attendance, and managing snack counts. Operate audio-visual equipment including projectors and video cameras, perform clerical tasks like filing and photocopying, and arrange field trips. Practice speech objectives with students as directed by the speech therapist and read to stimulate language development. Work under the guidance of the teacher, following lesson plans and recording data on student progress.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school
- Experience as a teacher aide
- Experience working with children
- Ability to work under the supervision of the teacher
- Ability to follow lesson plans prepared by teachers
- Ability to record data
- Ability to verbally describe student progress and difficulties
- Ability to work effectively with individual children and small groups
- Ability to take initiative in recognizing an immediate need and meeting it without specific instructions
- Physical ability to lift, position, and assist students
- Ability to learn to perform individual medical procedures
- Ability to operate standard office equipment
