Job Summary
Conduct academic assistance by giving group and individualized instruction, checking student work, and reinforcing achievement while monitoring behavior in classrooms and on school buses. Prepare visual aids, arrange furnishings, and serve as a proctor during testing. Drive or monitor school buses as required, maintaining all state board of education certifications. Report student attendance, behavior, and discipline issues to teachers or principals, ensuring data is entered into health records according to regulatory requirements. Perform duties for the 9-month term at West Clayton Elementary, including attending workshops and reconciling minor student conflicts.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children
- Ability to solve minor problems
- Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders
- Ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion
- Appropriate bus driver certification
