Job Summary
Assist the teacher in planning and providing individualized instruction to children with disabilities and typical role models ages birth to five. Support lesson execution, arrange the classroom environment, and communicate clear objectives to students while fostering an environment that supports individual achievement. Implement developmental assessments to determine each child's strengths and areas needing help, establish behavior rules, and utilize appropriate guidance techniques and classroom management skills. Administer daily snacks, tests, and surveys; ensure attendance is completed; and direct parents to appropriate staff. Maintain a safe, healthy learning environment by responding to emergencies, assisting in evacuations, and following Easter Seals policies and DCF standards. Document arrival and departure times daily and complete all required trainings.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Department of Children and Families (DCF) 45 hours childcare training
- Must obtain CPR/First Aid certification
- Ability to respond appropriately to an emergency or a crisis situation
- Ability to promote teamwork and build effective relationships
- Ability to take initiative and meet objectives
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding personal information of participants and staff
- Desire to improve the lives of people with special needs
- Work a flexible schedule as required
- Successful completion of background process which includes: Local background check, Level 2 clearance (FBI, FDLE), clear TB test, medical clearance, drug test and reference checks
- Adhere to the use of Universal Health & Safety Precautions as applicable
- Must be able to lift children (up to 50 lbs.)
- Must be able to detect unsafe situations by sight or sound
- Must be able to move quickly to intervene in unsafe situations
Desired Qualifications
- National CDA or FCCPC
- Demonstrated experience working with children
