Job Summary

Serve primarily as an instructional assistant, working with students to support teachers in organizing materials and maintaining a safe, healthful classroom environment. Enforce school rules consistently while modeling positive behavior and interacting effectively with students, parents, and staff. Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher or principal based on school needs. Drive a school bus safely and professionally, maintaining order and discipline in accordance with board policies. Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, ensure the vehicle is cleaned and well-maintained, and report mechanical issues immediately. Maintain current bus licenses, complete required medical and physical testing, and accurately complete monthly time sheets. Submit to designated principals on time. Employment is a 10-month term.

Required Qualifications

  • 48 semester hours which include core courses with an overall 2.5 or higher GPA from an accredited institution
  • Associate Degree or higher with an overall 2.5 or higher GPA from an accredited institution
  • WorkKeys testing in Applied Math - (min score 4)
  • WorkKeys testing in Workplace Documents - (min score 4)
  • WorkKeys testing in Business Writing - (min score 3)
  • Obtain and maintain bus license
  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, Balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, Lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
  • Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), P&S endorsements
  • Must be able to successfully complete a medical examination
  • Must be required to successfully complete the physical standards testing set forth by the School bus and Traffic Safety Section of the NC Division of Motor Vehicles and the school system's transportation department
  • Ability to meet and maintain legal and physical requirements for North Carolina School Bus Certification and local rules
  • Ability to operate and maneuver a school bus with proficiency
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with all levels
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations
  • Ability to earn the respect of the students of all ages and act sensitively to their needs

Desired Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency preferred
