Job Summary
Teacher Assistant (BES) at Bridgewater Elementary School supports students with special needs under teacher direction. Responsibilities include providing personal care functions (e.g., assisting with routines, mobility, toileting and personal hygiene), administering medications per program plans, implementing identified behavior management outcomes, recording data/observations, and collaborating with teachers and the school community to promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment. Requires Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check and Nova Scotia Child Abuse Register Check; offers opportunities to support students’ learning and development within a Term Part Time role.
Required Qualifications
- High school completion certificate
- Minimum 2-year post-secondary credential with significant Special Education component certified by NS Department of Education
- Supervised practicum of no less than 100 hours
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Specific health care support training/certification as required (e.g., Non Violent Crisis Intervention)
- Ability to perform physical requirements
- Basic computer skills and training in assistive technology
