Job Summary
Deliver direct instruction in reading, math, science, and daily living skills to students with autism in general and special education settings. Implement behavioral protocols consistently while recording data accurately per IEP schedules. Assist teachers with classroom preparation, manage student discipline, and intervene in crisis situations using approved physical management procedures. Foster independence through scaffolding support and communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and concerns. Maintain a structured environment that promotes intellectual, emotional, and social growth while remaining alert to student needs and behavioral triggers.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of techniques used in assisting students with autism
- Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing
- Skill in operating standard computer and software
- Ability to administer SAMA de-escalation and restraint techniques
- Able to organize and prioritize work responsibilities
- Knowledge of district, campus, and classroom policies
- Frequent districtwide travel
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing
- Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment
- May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint (SAMA); and assist non-ambulatory students
- Exposure to biological hazards
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Work with frequent interruptions
- Use a computer for a prolonged period, resulting in repetitive hand motions
- Lift and carry up to 20 lbs
- Move textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment
- Work occasional prolonged or irregular hours
Desired Qualifications
- Six months of related experience preferred
