Job Summary
Assist teachers in a preschool Head Start setting by providing a nurturing, safe, and educational environment for a group of children. Support the teacher with care, supervision, and education, conduct screenings to identify developmental concerns within the required 45-day window, implement and support a research-based curriculum aligned with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework (Ages Birth to Five), and participate in planning, lesson design, data integration, and classroom activities. Conduct parent-teacher conferences and home visits, support emergency procedures and family communications, ensure a clean and safe environment, assist with attendance documentation, IEPs or plans of care for children with disabilities, and help obtain in-kind contributions. Must comply with Head Start Performance Standards, Child Care Regulation, School Readiness Goals, and confidentiality policies. May temporarily serve as the lead teacher when needed. May require physical duties and the ability to respond quickly to active children and supervise both indoors and outdoors. The role emphasizes teamwork with teachers, volunteers, parents, and program staff and involvement in family engagement activities.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum CDA credential or a state-awarded certificate meeting or exceeding CDA requirements
- Preferred: CDA credential or an associate degree in child development or early childhood education, with experience teaching preschool-age children
- Valid Texas Driver's License
- Must pass DFPS background check
- Must pass an annual physical
- Must attend 24 clock hours of professional development per year (active supervision, safety practices, child abuse/neglect training)
- Enrolled in a program toward an associate or bachelor's degree or CDA credential program with timeline
- Confidentiality policies compliance
- Ability to work as part of a team and maintain records (assessments, IEP documentation)
- Experience or ability to perform activities in accordance with Head Start standards and related regulations
- I’m able to perform physical requirements (lift up to 25 pounds) and sensory requirements
