Job Summary
Assist the lead teacher in providing a nurturing, safe preschool environment and support development across social, cognitive, physical, and emotional domains. Functions include helping implement developmentally appropriate activities aligned with Head Start standards, supporting screening and assessment, helping conduct parent-teacher conferences and home visits, ensuring safety and sanitation, maintaining classroom records and attendance, assisting with IEPs/Plans of Care for children with disabilities, and collaborating with staff and families to promote engagement and program compliance. The role may involve temporarily serving as the teacher in the lead’s absence, and requires adherence to Head Start performance standards and relevant regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum: CDA credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential
- Enrolled in a program that will lead to an associate or bachelor’s degree or in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of time of hire
- Preferred: A CDA credential or an associate degree in child development, early childhood education or equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education, with experience teaching preschool-age children
- Must pass DFPS background check
- Must pass an annual physical
- Must attend 24 clock hours of professional development per year (including active supervision, safety practices, and training addressing child abuse/neglect)
- Valid Texas Driver's License
- Education/Certifications/Licensure as prescribed in Head Start Act section 648A(a)(2)(B)(ii); minimum CDA credential or state credential meeting CDA requirements
