Job Summary
Provide courteous and professional assistance to taxpayers via phone, emails, or in-person interactions regarding property tax exemptions, homestead eligibility, and lien corrections. Research databases to verify exemptions, review incoming mail and emails for appropriate action, and enter documentation such as building permits and agricultural applications into computer software. Resolve customer service issues and perform mathematical computations for property valuation while representing the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser's office professionally. May ensure the snack store is closed daily, train new employees, and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Two (2) or more years of experience working in a customer service or data entry position for a government property appraisal office or real estate company/agency
- Associate degree in business or related field
- Some experience as listed above
- Valid Florida Driver's License
- Knowledge of appraisal practices and procedures related to customer service, transfer of property ownership, data-entry, and property tax exemptions
- Knowledge of draft, aerial and variance maps and related fee schedules
- Knowledge of procedures, policies, and practices for property ownership
- Knowledge of clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures
- Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, and Excel)
- Ability to research and resolve questions, issues, and concerns related to the areas of customer service, transfer of property ownership, and property tax exemptions eligibility, and compliance
- Ability to research requests for property appraisal information from multiple sources
- Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, both orally and in writing
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to read, update, and maintain various records and files in numerical, alphabetical, or chronological sequence
- Ability to review, compile, and organize forms, documents, and related records for efficient processing and ready retrieval
- Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations
- Successful completion of the HCPA Tax Roll Records Specialist Training Program
