Job Summary

Support the ASC 740 tax provision process, including book/tax difference calculations, deferred tax inventory, and SEC reporting. Manage US federal, state income tax, and franchise tax compliance by reviewing returns, supporting workpapers, and handling quarterly estimates. Maintain the tax calendar, coordinate audits with tax authorities, and ensure adherence to internal controls and AML regulations. Identify process improvements for data transfer between accounting and tax applications. Research income tax issues, communicate recommendations via memos, and provide analytical support to business lines. Keep abreast of relevant tax law changes and handle non-routine situations independently. Work over 40 hours per week during peak times within the TowneBank Accounting department in Suffolk, VA.

Required Qualifications

  • 5 to 7 years of experience with US federal and state income tax compliance and ASC 740 Accounting for Income taxes
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Accounting, Tax or related field
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities simultaneously, with the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the business, while meeting deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, and Windows operating environment
  • Knowledge of tax research techniques and tax research software
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and research skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills
  • Ability to work over 40 hours per week during peak times
  • Build and maintain relationships, internally and externally
  • Express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word via email and verbally
  • Exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, use your arms and legs, and sit most of the time
  • Have close visual acuity to perform activities such as analyzing data, viewing a computer terminal, reading, and preparing documentation
  • Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

Desired Qualifications

  • Professional certification – Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Public accounting experience
