Job Summary
Tax Manager, Private Client Services at BDO leads tax compliance and consulting engagements for high net-worth clients, supervising associates and reviewing returns across individual, trust, estate, S-Corp, foundation, partnership, and gift tax. The role involves direct client interaction, collaboration with government agencies on complex matters, tax planning, and development of technical knowledge through client engagements and current tax developments. The position emphasizes leadership, relationship-building with BDO professionals and external sources, and active involvement in billing, attendance at CPE, and training. Strong emphasis on communication, initiative, and ability to manage multiple engagements with a team, along with business development and mentoring responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, preferred
- Master’s degree in Accountancy or Taxation, preferred
- Five (5) or more years prior experience in accounting, finance, or law, required
- License/Certifications: CPA, EA, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or equivalent, required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat, required
- Experience with tax compliance process software (GoSystems, BNA Tax Planner, GoFileRoom, SurePrep), preferred
- Experience with tax research tools (BNA Portfolio, CCH IntelliConnect, Checkpoint and Lexis Nexis), preferred
- Initiative, client-engagement management, supervision and training
- Effective verbal and written communication, ability to present a cohesive narrative
- Leadership, collaboration, and business development skills
- People development and mentoring of associates and seniors
- Ability to act as primary client contact for return preparation and coordination with engagement team
