Job Summary
Lead the organization's payroll tax compliance function by providing oversight of federal, state, and local filings, registrations, and regulatory reporting. Establish a comprehensive compliance framework to minimize risk while monitoring legislative changes and implementing necessary operational adjustments. Direct tax account maintenance, year-end reporting, and audit readiness, serving as the primary point of contact for agency examinations and regulatory inquiries. Mentor a team of Tax Analysts to foster accountability and drive continuous improvement through process automation and standardization. Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Payroll, HR, and Technology to optimize systems and support business growth. Ensure 100% on-time filing compliance with minimal audit findings while strengthening internal controls and reducing manual processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline
- Five (5) or more years of progressive experience in payroll tax, corporate tax, or multi-jurisdictional tax compliance
- Five (5) or more years of leadership experience managing high-performing teams
- Demonstrated expertise in federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
- Proven experience managing tax audits, registrations, regulatory reporting, and agency relationships
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, financial systems, and payroll tax technologies
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- Experience within a private equity-backed organization
- Experience in a Professional Employer Organization (PEO), payroll services, or other complex multi-state payroll environments
- Experience with Great Plains, Master Tax, and enterprise payroll tax applications
- Knowledge of business intelligence, reporting tools, automation technologies, and data analytics
