Job Summary
Manage REIT compliance, including preparation and review of quarterly and annual REIT testing and distribution requirements. Oversee federal and multi-state REIT and partnership tax returns, including tiered structures and operating partnerships. Review Schedule K-1s, allocations, and investor reporting while ensuring timely filing of returns, extensions, and estimated payments. Coordinate multi-state compliance, including composite filings and withholding requirements. Respond to tax notices, audits, and information requests. Manage internal tax team and external tax advisors, reviewing deliverables and partnering with accounting, legal, and investment teams on tax-related inquiries. Lead and manage tax compliance for a publicly traded REIT with primary responsibility for REIT qualification and partnership tax reporting.
Required Qualifications
- 8–10+ years of tax experience within public accounting and/or private industry, with emphasis on REIT and partnership tax compliance
- Strong technical knowledge of REIT qualification rules and partnership taxation
- Experience with multi-state tax filings and apportionment
- CPA
- Strong Excel and tax compliance software experience
- Detail-oriented with strong review capabilities
- Organized and deadline-driven in a high-volume compliance environment
- Practical, execution-focused mindset
- Strong leadership and communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- CPA preferred
- Combination of Big 4/public accounting and real estate industry experience strongly preferred
