Job Summary

Facilitate group learning experiences and provide peer support to individuals in the care of Springhill Prison, leveraging personal recovery experience to empower tāne. Conduct sessions focused on seeking, growing, and nurturing wellbeing within a kaupapa Māori framework, while maintaining a mature disposition in a challenging prison environment. A minimum of four years in recovery and preferably a Level 4 qualification in health, education, or Māori arts are required. This full-time role offers a competitive salary, location allowance, and regular supervision, with applications closing August 25, 2026, contingent on security clearance approval.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to facilitate group learning experiences
  • Must be comfortable working with groups
  • Must be prepared to work in a kaupapa Māori way
  • Must be mature
  • Must have the right disposition to work in this highly challenging environment
  • Must be able to connect with, give hope to and empower others who are in the care of the prison
  • Must be able to use your own experience of recovery from addiction to connect with, give hope to and empower others who are in the care of the prison
  • Must be able to support tāne realize their potential
  • Must be available for security clearance approval
  • Must pass criminal background review
  • Must pass pre-employment drug testing

Desired Qualifications

  • Preferably a relevant level 4 qualification in health, education or Māori arts
  • Ideally, be affiliated to mana whenua or Pasifika peoples
  • A minimum of 4 years in recovery
