Job Summary
Tank Maintenance Technician responsible for preventative maintenance, special inspections, and general repairs on tractor and trailer units in compliance with DOT and FHWA standards. Duties include diagnosing and repairing tanks, performing annual 90-day inspections, inspecting cargo tanks (internal/external/upper coupler, heat system, leakage, vacuum, pressure tests, vapor tightness), replacing worn parts, repairing brakes, electrical and hydraulic systems, interpreting technical publications, maintaining maintenance records in software, operating a yard hostler to move trailers, ordering parts, and adhering to OSHA/environmental safety policies. Welding repairs may be performed; duties may include other assigned tasks. Reports to Shop Supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle and equipment theory, principles, and repair relating to diesel engines, air, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems
- Ability to effectively and efficiently inspect tanks and trailers to align with DOT standards (49CFR HM180.407)
- Knowledge of tractor and trailer maintenance, DOT rules and regulations, company policies and procedures
- Ability to use vehicle diagnostic software
- Language Skills: Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently
