Job Summary
Tech Lead / Back-end Architect role focused on launching a greenfield, high-impact platform at a fully remote company. Own the technical vision, set end-to-end architecture (data storage, task orchestration, model-in-the-loop pipelines, multi-tenant, observability), drive build-vs-buy decisions, seed the initial tech stack, prototype core services, and mentor a growing team of back-end, full-stack, and front-end engineers. Collaborate with Product Lead to translate customer needs into actionable technical requirements; establish engineering culture, coding standards, and CI/CD from day one; represent the technology narrative with stakeholders and early enterprise customers. Early-week/month milestones include onboarding to practices, setting up the stack and environment, identifying bottlenecks, leading architectural initiatives, and ensuring scalability and long-term roadmap alignment. Qualifications emphasize extensive distributed-systems experience, cloud proficiency (GCP/AWS), multi-tenant architectures, leadership and mentoring capabilities, hands-on product development, effective communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and a founder-level, ownership-driven mindset.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years designing and shipping distributed systems at scale
- Fluency with a major cloud (e.g., GCP or AWS)
- Modern tech stack experience (Ruby/Rails, Python, Rust, Golang, Java etc.)
- Deep track record architecting large-scale, multi-tenant applications and platforms
- Experience hiring, mentoring, and growing a small team of back-end, full-stack, and front-end engineers
- Hands-on experience building zero-to-one products and navigating rapid iteration under ambiguity
- Comfort pitching architecture to engineers and non-technical stakeholders and contributing production code
- Collaborative, founder-level mindset with bias to action and ownership
