Job Summary
Tailoring / Alterations Specialist responsible for performing all levels of garment alterations and repairs for luxury menswear and womenswear at Etro’s Soho Madison boutique workrooms. The role includes client fittings in-boutique, expert hand-finishing and couture-level finishing, working across luxury fabrics, repairing garments (zippers, buttons, seams), interpreting client alteration requests, maintaining organized workspaces, and coordinating with the boutique team to manage workflow and meet turnaround times. Occasional travel between Soho and Madison locations, support for events and VIC appointments, and serving as a brand ambassador with discretion and professionalism.
Required Qualifications
- Formal training in tailoring, garment construction, or fashion design (vocational school, atelier apprenticeship, or equivalent)
- Minimum 3–5 years of professional tailoring and alterations experience within a luxury fashion, high-end retail, or couture environment
- Expert proficiency in both machine and hand sewing, including advanced hand-finishing techniques (blind hem, slip stitch, hand-sewn buttonholes)
- Experience with luxury materials: printed silk, fine wool, cashmere, jersey knit, leather, embellished fabrics
- Knowledge of garment construction across womenswear and menswear, including jackets, trousers, dresses, knitwear, outerwear
- Proven experience taking precise measurements and conducting professional client fittings
- Ability to interpret alteration notes, pins, and chalk marks and execute to specification
- Attention to detail and ability to meet client deadlines
- Proficiency with industrial sewing machines, serger, blind-hem machine, and professional pressing equipment
- Fluency in English; Italian or other language skills a plus
- Collaborative team player with sales floor to deliver elevated client experience
- Professional demeanor and interpersonal skills suitable for luxury boutique environment
