Job Summary
Tagalog Reviewer/Editor/Certifier for DOJ Linguistic Support Services. Responsibilities include translation, interpretation, transcription of diverse legal and technical materials, and ensuring that terminology, tone, and register are preserved across documents and multimedia. Requires ILR 4 language proficiency, strong English editing, at least five years of relevant experience, experience with law enforcement or legal departments, U.S. citizenship, and a current Public Trust or higher clearance. Proficiency with CAT tools (SDL Trados Studio) and strict confidentiality are mandatory. Remote work option available with potential travel; primary location noted as National Capital Region (Washington, DC) with additional CONUS locations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the required language within the last ten years with superior English and editing skills
- Qualifying ILR 4 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the United States (not necessarily consecutive)
- At least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Knowledge of vocabulary used in English and the foreign language in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual modes across contexts including slang and regionalisms
- Knowledge of specialized vocabulary in English and the foreign language related to government missions and terminology; ability to use translation resources and reference materials
- Fluency in writing in native language with professional command of non-native language
- Translate in a factually and conceptually accurate manner without changes, omissions, or additions
- Preserve tone and register of source materials
- Abide by relevant code of linguist ethics
- Proficient in Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, with emphasis on SDL Trados Studio
- Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
- Location: Remote / National Capital Region / Various CONUS Locations
- Travel: Some travel may be required
