Job Summary
The Unconventional seeks a Tagalog Language Instructor for eMentor to support LEAP and AFCLC. Responsibilities include administering the eMentor curricula (syllabi and lesson plans), preparing instructional aids and open-source materials, producing teacher-friendly content following industry best practices, operating UCC platform tools to launch live sessions, manage audio/video, screen sharing, chat, and troubleshooting, delivering instruction aligned with objectives across ILR levels 0–3+, providing one-on-one feedback and assessing progress, and coordinating OnDemand session scheduling in the LEaDeR application with the ISS. The role involves teaching one-on-one or small groups (2–4 Scholars), delivering culturally and geopolitically informed language instruction across time zones to a globally distributed student base, and supporting learners including military personnel with cross-cultural and mission-relevant language development. Location options include on-site Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, AL, or remote work within the United States; travel is not required. Clear background check is required. Must possess language proficiency at ILR Advanced Professional or ACTFL Superior level for each language taught and hold at least a bachelor’s degree in language instruction or related field, with substantial experience in the target cultures. The position emphasizes instructional quality, platform-based delivery, and alignment with curricula and assessment practices.
Required Qualifications
- ILR Advanced Professional Proficiency or ACTFL Superior in speaking and writing for each language/dialect instructed
- Bachelor’s degree in language instruction or related social science field (e.g., History, Political Science, International Relations, Anthropology, Archaeology, Cultural Geography)
- Minimum five years of embedded experience in target culture(s)
- Ability to deliver instruction and assessments across ILR levels 0 through 3+
- Extensive global regional expertise
- Extensive knowledge of foreign language teaching techniques and instructional systems
- Extensive knowledge of learning theory, psychology of learning, educational psychology, and Instructional Product Development
- Extensive knowledge of instructional design practices and curriculum development
- Extensive knowledge of web-based interactive course delivery systems
- Extensive expertise in instructor facilitation and faculty development
- Extensive knowledge of computers in education and training
- Demonstrated multimedia design and delivery skills (e.g., embedded video)
- General proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and related productivity software
- Ability to obtain background clearance
- Location flexibility to work on-site at Maxwell AFB, AL or remotely within the US
