Job Summary

Provide instruction and coaching to candidates in Naval Special Warfare Orientation courses, maintaining daily contact with junior sailors to ensure adherence to the highest standards of conduct. Conduct physical testing in accordance with OPNAVINST 6110.1, meeting minimum PST standards within 30 days of physical check-in while maintaining personal fitness to pass yearly standards. Complete the High-Risk Instructor Training Course within 30 days of hire to qualify as a High-Risk Safety and Training Instructor, satisfying BTC NSWO specific CUIT and ELI requirements. Perform administrative functions including tracking student performance through the NSW Individual Training and Readiness Management database, recording metrics, and coordinating with leadership to identify performance trends. Work daytime hours in curriculum-driven schedules that may extend late, operating in varied settings including pools, weight rooms, and open water. Maintain situational awareness and physical fitness to handle hot and cold conditions with exposure to the elements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Health and Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related physical training field
  • Four (4) years of recent (within the last 6 years) equivalent experience working as a coach or physical fitness leader in an equivalent field and environment
  • Ability to maneuver around and see, hear, and verbally communicate with co-workers and contractors
  • Visual acuity to review written documentation
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels
  • Ability to qualify as an ATV operator
  • CPR, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid certification from American Red Cross
  • Current and valid US driver's license
  • Ability to operate government vehicles
  • Possess or ability to obtain SECRET Clearance
  • Ability to pass random drug testing at least twice annually
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Power Point, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Task oriented, self-motivated and can multi-task, work under pressure, meet deadlines and work as team member
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to interact with leadership
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to provide directions
  • Ability to maintain health in hot and cold conditions with exposure to the elements
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in a variety of settings
  • Ability to maintain a constant state of mental alertness
  • Ability to maintain a constant state of situational awareness
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
  • Acceptable background check results
  • Ability to obtain access to military installations

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous experience related to the essential duties and responsibilities outlined for this position
  • One (1) year or more of Swim Coaching experience at a competitive level (Club, Collegiate or Olympic)
  • Additional Swim Coach certifications including, but not limited to, American Swim Coach Association Levels 1-3, FINA Swimming Coach or USA Swimming Coach
