Systems Software Engineer

Job Summary

Develop, maintain, and support systems and application software using C and C++ while participating in the design, implementation, integration, and testing of mission-critical software systems for the Federal Aviation Administration. Build software supporting hardware interfaces and communication protocols, then coordinate development activities with the Software Lead Engineer to track schedules, milestones, and risks. Provide regular project status updates to Program Office leadership and collaborate with systems, hardware, and test engineers throughout the software development lifecycle. Support integration, verification, validation, and troubleshooting activities, including code reviews, technical design discussions, and software documentation. Assist with software deployment and system integration as required. This role is remote with a preference for the Oklahoma City area, requiring a Bachelor's degree and 4-8 years of experience in systems software development, C/C++ programming, and protocol coordination.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Demonstrated experience developing systems or application software using C and C++
  • Experience throughout the software development lifecycle (requirements, design, implementation, integration, testing, and maintenance)
  • Understanding of software architecture and system integration principles
  • Experience with serial communication protocols (RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, UART, etc.)
  • Experience with IP networking and communication protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, Ethernet)
  • Experience coordinating software development activities, schedules, and technical progress
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with technical teams and program management
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and pass FAA security screening for positions of Public Trust
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline)
  • at least 4-8 years of relevant experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience serving as a software technical lead or software development lead
  • Embedded systems or real-time software development experience
  • Experience integrating software with hardware systems
  • Experience supporting software deployment, installation, or field integration
  • Aerospace, defense, FAA, DoD, or other mission-critical systems experience
  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies and software configuration management tools (Git, Azure DevOps, Jira, etc.)
  • The Oklahoma City (OKC) area is preferred
