Job Summary
Systems Engineer I to translate customer needs into system and software requirements for Markem-Imaje DoD printer systems. Responsibilities include authoring and maintaining functional specifications and software requirements, coordinating with software/firmware/electrical and mechanical teams, facilitating requirements reviews, defining system-level architecture, translating product marketing inputs into structured requirements, supporting verification/validation with traceability matrices, and managing requirements lifecycle using Jira and Ease Requirements. Requires embedded firmware and/or hardware design experience, strong communication, and a bachelor’s/master’s in EE/CE/Systems Engineering. Hybrid work arrangement in Downers Grove, IL.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Systems Engineering
- Minimum 3–4 years of engineering experience in an individual contributor role within an industrial environment; 1–2 years of systems engineering experience preferred
- Hands-on experience with embedded firmware development (C/C++, RTOS) and/or electronic hardware design
- Demonstrated experience with hardware-firmware co-design, PCB bring-up, and debugging at the hardware-software interface
- Experience with SysML/UML modeling preferred
- Proficiency with Jira and Ease Requirements for requirements management and agile project tracking
- Experience in all elements of systems engineering: requirements definition through design, integration, verification, and validation (V&V)
- Strong communication skills and ability to translate customer needs into structured requirements
- Knowledge of marking and coding equipment, especially using drop-on-demand inkjet technology (desirable)
- Ability to define a path to solve complex problems and motivate others
