Systems Administer - Linux

Job Summary
Diagnose complex Linux system platform issues as a Tier III support subject matter expert, collaborating closely with systems and network engineering teams. Manage server operations including deployment, configuration, monitoring, and operational documentation while identifying initiatives to optimize infrastructure for security, stability, and sustainability. Maintain 24/7 system and network uptime through a weekly on-call rotation, escalate service-related questions to commercial vendors, and implement new technologies and best practices in this evolving service provider environment.
Required Qualifications
- Service oriented, positive attitude
- Serve as the subject matter expert for Linux system platforms, providing Tier III support in diagnosing complex issues, working closely with systems and network engineering teams
- 3-5 years experience working with IT platform infrastructure including bare-metal and VMware, Hyper-V
- Server management including (but not limited to) system deployment, configuration and management, monitoring, and operational documentation
- Identifying and implementing initiatives that improve or optimize existing infrastructure environments or processes in regards to security, stability and sustainability
- Work closely with commercial vendors escalating service-related issues/questions
- Upkeep skills by participating in professional development through educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and maintaining professional designations
- Able to quickly learn and implement new technologies and infrastructure best practices in a constantly evolving service provider environment
- Ensure the 24/7 system/network uptime as part of a weekly On-Call rotation
- 3-5+ years experience working with Linux systems in a production environment (RedHat/CentOS preferred)
- Advanced experience in Unix architecture and security
- Advanced UNIX/Linux scripting skills. Shell scripting and coding in bash, perl or similar languages
- 3-5+ years experience working with open-source software including (but not limited to) Apache HTTPd, Tomcat, Asterisk, BIND, MySQL Red Hat IPA Server, etc
- Advanced experience in supporting infrastructure systems such as DNS, NTP, LDAP, MySQL, NFS/CIFS, SYSLOG, SMTP, Kickstart, Elastic Search, etc
- Linux server hardening and performance tuning
- Strong troubleshooting, reasoning and problem-solving skills

- Experience with containerization
- PostgreSQL experience
- Windows Server and Active Directory Management
- VMware Administration experience
- Experience with mobile security
