System Test & Validation Engineer II
On-site · Palo Alto, California, United States
Job Summary
System Test & Validation Engineer with a strong focus on hands-on prototyping and fabrication. You will transform early-stage designs into working prototypes through 3D printing, composite layup, system assembly, and propulsion integration, working directly in the shop and collaborating with engineers to ensure designs can be physically built, tested, and iterated quickly. The role requires hands-on experience with internal combustion engines to support integration, testing, and troubleshooting of engine-related systems alongside composite and structural assemblies. Responsibilities include fabricating prototype components using 3D printing and machining, manufacturing prototype structures via wet layup techniques, building and maintaining jigs/molds/fixtures, assembling and integrating mechanical/electrical/structural/engine systems, troubleshooting and repairs during build/test, and providing design feedback for manufacturability and integration. Preferred qualifications include aerospace/automotive prototyping experience, knowledge of adhesives/bonded structures, familiarity with UAV/drone/eVTOL builds, and a safety-conscious, customer-focused, collaborative mindset.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Skilled in CAD tools (CATIA, NX, or similar) for prototype design.
- Proficiency with 3D printing (FDM, SLA, or similar) and finishing techniques.
- Practical experience with wet layup composite fabrication.
- Strong shop skills: use of hand tools, adhesives, cutting, bonding, and assembly processes.
- Hands-on experience working with internal combustion engines (assembly, integration, or testing).
Desired Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Background in prototyping for aerospace or automotive systems.
- Knowledge of adhesives, bonded structures, and lightweight materials.
- Familiarity with UAV, drone, or eVTOL builds.
