Job Summary

Engineer system administration solutions by installing, rebuilding, and configuring servers, storage, and virtualization platforms (VMware, KVM) in accordance with standards. Manage storage equipment (Netapp, Dell/EMC), apply security patches, and perform daily system monitoring, backup operations, and log reviews to ensure integrity and availability. Troubleshoot hardware and software failures, coordinate repairs, and provide Tier III support for infrastructure and R&D activities. Maintain system inventory via GLPI, automate tasks using Ansible, and deploy management tools including Jira, Git, LDAP, and Jenkins. Contribute to security posture, optimize performance, and research automated approaches for administrative tasks. After hours and weekend support required; 7+ years of Linux experience and CompTIA Security+ certification mandatory.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of system administration experience in Linux environments
  • Proficient in shell scripting
  • Creating cron jobs
  • Analyzing log files
  • Managing user accounts and groups
  • Configuring iptables
  • Setting up mail services
  • CompTIA Security+ (SY0-301) or other DoD 8570.1 Workplace Improvement Plan IAT Level II compliant certification
  • Equivalent experience to CompTIA Security+ or DoD 8570.1 IAT Level II
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to move servers to and from main DC to the colocation and labs
  • Install new hardware or migrate existing servers (rack and stack)
  • After hours and weekend support
  • Alternative work schedules

Desired Qualifications

  • Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Linux+, e.g., CompTIA Linux+, Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
  • Network equipment management, Cisco equipment preferred
  • Especially high skill level of VMware admin and management
  • Jenkins, GIT, DevOps tool administration
  • Proven ability to multi-task
  • Independent, self-starter
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written correspondence) in a professional and courteous manner with technical and non-technical personnel
  • Familiarity with web-based technologies, including but not limited to, reverse proxy servers, SSL certificate configuration, three-tier architecture, and service oriented architecture, enterprise service bus, http, and differences between browsers
