Job Summary
System Safety Engineer, SME for Space Nuclear Propulsion at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL. Provide System Safety Engineering support for SNP Office, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and presentation to Safety and Mission Assurance leadership; review safety documentation (SSPs, PWS, SRD, CEI, DRDs); participate in design/operations trade studies to ensure safety requirements are met; develop and verify hazard controls, verification plans and DVOs; support safety reviews (COFR, SORR, FRR) and program deliverables; collaborate with design engineers, program management, safety review panels, and regulatory authorities. Desired experience includes prior NASA/DoE/DoD or nuclear program involvement, familiarity with nuclear safety basis development, probabilistic risk assessment, ALARA, and regulatory safety standards. Onsite 9/80 schedule with some travel; standard Bastion requirements apply; background verification and drug screening required. Required Qualifications
- bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
- 20+ years of related work experience
- demonstrable experience in system safety hazard analyses and documenting results (e.g., SSARs)
- experience with FTA/FFA/FMEA or similar analyses
- preferred experience in NASA/DOE/DOD or nuclear programs
- experience with nuclear propulsion, space nuclear power, radiation protection principles
- ability to work onsite at MSFC in Huntsville, AL
