Job Summary

Lead and coordinate safety analyses including Fault Tree Analysis, Preliminary Hazard Assessment, Functional Hazard Assessment, and Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analyses to identify hazards, causes, controls, and mitigations. Perform and review system and subsystem safety analysis products while ensuring traceability between functions, requirements, and safety artifacts. Develop mitigation plans and support verification and validation of safety and reliability requirements for space vehicles and in-space systems. Mentor engineers across the program and collaborate to establish best practices and common processes. Work directly with systems engineering teams, program management, and customers to minimize risk and increase mission success probability.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of System Safety or Systems Engineering experience performing activities such as requirements definition, requirements traceability, functional decomposition, integration, verification, and validation
  • In-depth experience with performing safety analyses on safety critical systems including: Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Preliminary Hazard Assessment (PHA), Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), Hazard Reports, Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMECA), reliability analysis, and mitigation plans
  • Ability to lead and coordinate safety analysis products across stakeholders and experts from varying engineering fields to produce safety and reliability products
  • Strong safety and mission assurance fundamentals
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate technical information effectively
  • Passion for our mission and vision

  • Travel expected up to 20% of the time
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

  • Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles... may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing, vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience performing system safety and/or reliability analyses on satellites or human-rated in-space systems
  • Experience performing compliance assessment of system safety processes and products against external standards including Range Safety, NASA, FAA, MIL-STD-882, or ARP-4761
  • Experience with certification of human-rated space systems
  • Process ownership and maintenance experience
