System Safety Engineer

Job Summary
Develop and maintain system safety artifacts including System Safety Program Plans, hazard analyses, and safety assessment reports for hardware and software domains. Partner with program teams to identify hazards, define safety functional requirements, and mitigate risks while ensuring documentation aligns with MIL-STD-882E and customer expectations. Serve as Program Safety Manager for selected initiatives, leading working groups to apply industry standards and supporting compliance with environmental regulations like REACH and RoHS. Review test procedures and participate in design reviews to verify alignment with safety objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Safety, or a related technical discipline
- A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in system safety engineering
- Solid understanding of system safety standards and safety-driven design principles
- Proven experience performing hazard identification, hazard analysis, risk mitigation, and developing supporting safety documentation
- Working knowledge of MIL-STD-882E, including experience with software Level of Rigor (LOR)
- Experience conducting Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and applying other recognized system safety engineering tools and techniques
- Familiarity with additional relevant industry standards and/or range safety standards
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex safety concepts clearly to diverse audiences
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively within cross-functional teams
- Familiarity with Naval systems and operating environments
- Eligible to apply for and maintain Canadian Controlled Goods and Canadian Government Security Clearances
