Job Summary
Operate PowerSouth's bulk electric system in real-time to maintain system frequency, voltage, and power flows within established limits using EMS/SCADA; develop and issue transmission and distribution switching orders to safely isolate equipment during normal and emergency conditions; coordinate conditions with the Reliability Coordinator (SeRC) and neighboring systems, including issuing and receiving operating instructions; maintain situational awareness, respond to abnormal or emergency conditions (equipment failures, weather events, cyber/physical threats), and document events for audits; work rotating 12-hour shifts in a control room; pursue and achieve NERC System Operator Certification within three attempts and maintain ongoing certification; communicate effectively with exempt/non-exempt personnel, public and cooperative stakeholders, and promote safety, teamwork, and integrity in daily operations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred in Engineering, Mathematical Science, or related technical field; alternatively, minimum of five (5) years of experience in substation operations, system protection, or power plant operations
