Job Summary
Junior Systems Engineer on the TacNET team supporting the Land Command Support System (LCSS) for the Canadian Army. Responsibilities include logging, triaging and tracking SPRs; supporting software verification and integration; conducting system-level tests; updating design documents, use-cases and procedures; participating in team document reviews; ensuring security and configuration-management compliance; evaluating software obsolescence risks and upgrade paths; devising/caring for corrections in Linux/Windows/VM test environments; using tools such as JIRA/Confluence, Ansible, and Python scripts; engineering and optimizing IP networks, VLAN architecture design, and validation frameworks for Cisco-based IP networking and VoIP platforms; collaboration with software, network and hardware engineers in an Agile setting; requires a Bachelor's degree and hands-on experience with Linux/Windows, scripting, and testing. Preferred familiarity with AI/ML models, Scrum/SAFe, and defence industry environments.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Computer Science/Applied Science or related technical/scientific diploma
- Hands on experience (co-op, internship or entry-level role) with: Linux (Ubuntu or RedHat) and Windows Server/Desktop environments
- Basic scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation or data processing
- Documenting test results and presenting findings to technical audience
- Strong written and oral communications skills
- Ability to work effectively in collaborative, fast-moving Agile team
- Demonstrated leadership on a small academic or work project
- Strong interest in networked computer systems and desire to grow in this field
- Experience with virtualization and IP networking concepts
- Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible and Python
- Basic Cisco VOIP knowledge
- Exposure to defence industry or DND/CAF environments, especially LCSS/LC4ISR systems
- Security clearance eligibility and Canadian work eligibility
